We are thrilled to announce an exciting new collaboration between Bunger Surf Shop and J. Crew! This partnership is a perfect blend of our rich surfing heritage and J. Crew’s renowned fashion sensibilities.
Our collaboration with J. Crew began when Brendon Babenzien, J. Crew’s Men’s Creative Director, expressed his interest in Bunger Surf Shop. Raised on Long Island, Brendon has always had a deep connection to the surf culture that Bunger embodies. This connection sparked a partnership that beautifully marries the retro charm of Bunger Surf with the high-quality, stylish designs that J. Crew is known for.
The Bunger Surf x J. Crew collection is now live on J. Crew’s website, featuring an exclusive interview with Charlie Bunger Jr., co-owner of Bunger Surf Shop. In the interview, Charlie shares the fascinating history of Bunger Surf Shop, from its humble beginnings to its status as a beloved East Coast surf community staple. Charlie reflects on the collaboration, stating, “We are so happy that Brendon and J. Crew was interested in collaborating with us. Operating our family business is all Theresa, Tommy and I know we know but when we take the time to pause and think about it for a little, it’s a pretty cool story. It’s a story about a guy, our father Charlie Sr. who just loved surfing & shaping surfboards, and how a fun little surf community on the East Coast was born from it.”
The collaboration presents the Bunger brand in a way we are incredibly proud of. We’ve kept true to our fun retro logos and look, while also incorporating J. Crew’s quality and fashionable designs. We hope everyone enjoys the collection as much as we enjoyed creating it.

First Bunger board bought used in Ocean City, Md. 1970 or 71. Just under 8ft as I recall? White board w/ single stringer. Trailing ant design down near tail. Any memories?
